In the summer of 2014, almost £20,000 was raised in aid of Mouth Cancer Action as more than 300 people took part in an extraordinary 500 mile walk across the UK.

The event started up in Kirriemuir, Scotland. Over the course of a month, hundreds of people joined in the journey which involved visiting 32 different towns and cities along the east coast before coming to its conclusion in Brighton, England.

This outstanding event, led by Christina Chatfield, a dental hygienist and owner of Dental Health Spa Brighton, captured the imagination of many people across the UK. Plenty of locals taking advantage of the opportunity to learn more about mouth cancer and the deadly human papillomavirus, otherwise known as HPV.

Mouth cancer is a growing problem, but fundraising events like the 500 Miles for Smiles go a long way to increasing the nation’s awareness of the disease and saving lives as a result.

As result of this outstanding fundraising effort, more Brits are learning about the risk factors and common warning signs of the disease. Something that will prove to be extremely positive in reducing the amount of lives lost to mouth cancer.

Here are the best snaps from the event:

Together we can create a world where fewer people are affected by mouth cancer and help Brits become more aware of HPV, a potentially deadly virus.

This May, we will be heading to the Isle of Skye to take on Bla Bheinn and we would love you to join us!

On 2 May 2020, we will walk the coast of Boreraig and Suisnish. It will be a fun trek of 16.5km with a small ascent of 350m, an ideal one to take part in if you don’t have much hiking experience.

On 3 May 2020, we’ll be heading for the big climb – Bla Bheinn. It is also known as the Blue Mountain and is said to be one of the most magnificent mountains in Britain. This is a tougher route than the previous day with some rocky terrain and a ascent of a whopping 990m.

On the trek, we’ll have a group of guides and experts to help you along the way and make sure you enjoy the experience as much as possible.

Feel free to join us for either day or both. Whether you come on your own or with a group, we hope you will join us.
