The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) is pleased to deliver a series of talks from key dental experts on Tuesday 18 May at 19:00.

The webinar series will consist of a number of key topics within the world of cosmetic dentistry.

Simon Chard – designing the patient journey for 2021

In this webinar Dr Simon Chard discusses the seven steps of the 2021 patient journey.

This includes how to leverage concepts such as social media, virtual consultations, digital examinations, smile design/AR and video to modernise and systemise your patient flow, allowing you to focus on the dentistry.

Carol Somerville Roberts – building a successful private squat practice

Carol will talk about her experience of opening a private squat during a recession in a small town with five other practices already well established.

The speakers

Simon Chard

Dr Simon Chard is an award-winning cosmetic dentist, international lecturer and British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry board director.

Based just outside of London, he co-owns Rothley Lodge Dental with his wife Dr Meghan Chard. Here he practices minimally invasive restorative dentistry.

He is also a co-founder of Pärla Toothpaste Tabs, an eco-friendly and plastic free toothpaste brand that is disrupting the toothpaste market.

Dr Simon was voted the 2015 Best Young Dentist UK at the Dentistry Awards. In 2020 was also selected the fourth most influential dentist in UK dentistry as voted by the profession in Dentistry magazine.

He is a key opinion leader for digital dentistry. He lectures internationally on digital workflows in cosmetic, orthodontic and implant dentistry. As a prominent cosmetic dentist in the industry Dr Simon has also been featured on Sky and Channel 5 News, as well as in British GQ, The Times and Men’s Health.

Paul Abrahams

Dr Paul Abrahams is the principal dentist at Smilemore. He has worked in north London for 21 years providing general and cosmetic dental care.

Dr Paul Abrahams heads up the Smilemore Dental Care team. He qualified at Guys Dental Hospital in 1989, and has undertaken extensive post graduate studies in cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry since.

He is committed to on-going training in all areas of dentistry to ensure he is a leader in all dental fields, particularly cosmetics. Additionally, he is a board member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) being responsible for organising its national conference.

Dr Abrahams has a personable approach, always giving clear explanations to his patients. This, combined with his extensive experience, helps him deliver the best possible dental care and long term oral health.

He takes great pride in providing dental care for all the family in a friendly and caring environment.

Carol Somerville Roberts

Carol Somerville Roberts graduated from Bristol Dental School in 1996. From there she did her VT in Shepton Mallet and then spent the next three years in hospital dentistry carrying out oral surgery. She then continued her career in a fully NHS practice as an associate but moved on after nine months to a private practice.

She spent the next eight years there as an associate before opening Evolve Dentistry, a private squat dental practice, in January 2009 in Portishead just outside Bristol. Evolve has grown from a team of four to a team of 16 in the past 12 years.

As well as developing her dental skills with a passion for lifelong learning, Carol completed a PGCert in non-surgical facial aesthetic at Salford University in 2020. She joined the BACD in 2007 and was elected to the board of directors in 2019.

Chris McConnell

Dr Chris McConnell is a private dentist based in Cornwall with a special in advanced dental treatments including implants, sedation, cosmetic and digital dentistry. He has two practices – a general practice and also a bespoke designed clinic that focuses on the digital workflow in cosmetic and implant dentistry.

Chris is president elect of the BACD and is a key opinion leader with a number of international companies. As well as founder of the REAL dentist course, which teaches dentists how to maximise efficiencies in practice. Chris has an enthusiasm for straight talking dental education, cutting through a lot of the fakery that is out there.

He regularly lectures on dental efficiencies and advanced implant and cosmetic solutions using digital dentistry to improve your results, income generation and also patient outcomes.

Sam Jethwa

Sam is an award-winning dentist and has special interests in restoring patients smiles using Smile Design, dental implants, invisible braces and more. He lectures on the topic of smile makeovers and is director of technology and a committee chair at The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Sam has also been nominated as a finalist for two years running for Best Young Dentist UK.

He invests heavily in his own postgraduate training. He has been trained in Digital Smile Design (DSD) and emotional dentistry by world-class cosmetic dentists. So can design your perfect smile using latest 3D technology and translate this to reality to show you how you could look before you decide to go ahead with treatment.

He has completed his fellowship examinations and is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. He is a qualified clinical teacher after completing a postgraduate diploma in clinical education from the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Glasgow. Additionally, he is an active lecturer and advisor for students looking to pursue dental careers.

He is on the board of the BACD and a full member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). He sits on the education committee and chairs the Young Membership Committee at the BACD. Dr Jethwa has also completed a dental implant qualification at The Cambridge Academy of Implantology.
