The Royal Navy are calling for dental hygienists, dental nurses and dentists to apply for roles in a new recruitment push.
As part of its new recruitment drive, a number of dental positions have opened up – many of which involve overseas deployment.
It comes as the Ministry of Defence (MOD) relax entry rules for applicants to the Royal Navy. Now, if you are a Commonwealth citizen, you no longer have to be a UK resident to apply.
From engineers to medical assistants, there a number of vacancies available, including a range of dental roles.

Travel the world
This includes:
- Hygienist – be part of a world class dental team and experience dental practice incomparable to civilian life caring for patients in the UK and deployed overseas
- Dental nurse – be part of a professional dental practice and travel the world, proving routine and emergency dental care
- Dental officer – lead a dental team in the UK or deployed overseas to maintain the routine and emergency dental care of our personnel and maintain our operational capability.
Responsibilities include working on large warships, with access to the sick bay’s operating theatre and ward facilities. On smaller ships, professionals will manage a portable dental unit.
For the dental officer role, the description reads: ‘Outside your practice, you’ll have a vital operational role to play.
‘You could find yourself in a combat or disaster zone, where you’ll need to put flight-deck control, firefighting and advanced life support training to use.’
There are also opportunities for post-graduate study, as well as six weeks of paid holiday every year.
