Dentist and Lab Help Kentucky Woman Maintain Her Health

by adminjay

Joan, 73, lives Lexington. Following a 37-year career working in a print shop, she is now retired, and enjoys spending her time reading and visiting friends. Unfortunately, her health has presented a significant challenge. Due to cardiovascular issues, Joan has three stents, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and takes a blood thinner. She had also had dentures for almost 60 years, though the upper has since broken, making eating difficult. Her primary care physician has strongly recommended comprehensive dental treatment. Living on a fixed social security income, however, Joan struggles to make ends meet, and the care she needed seemed out of reach.

Fortunately, Joan was referred to the Kentucky Donated Dental Services (DDS) program and was matched with Dr. Jessica Kress, a DDS volunteer since 2016, of Commonwealth Smiles in Lexington. Dr. Kress extracted one tooth and fit a set of full upper and lower dentures with the help of Derby Dental Lab in Louisville. Thanks to their generosity, Joan can now more easily focus on her cardiovascular health.

Commenting on the office’s experience working with Joan, Dr. Kress’ staff commented, “Our entire team at Commonwealth Smiles are proud to be involved with Dental Lifeline Network and their mission to provide quality dental care to the people who need it most.”
