Located in Bradford, Ont., Dentistry on 88 is a technologically driven facility with state-of-the-art equipment that enhances the quality of patient care and experience. With pops of purple throughout the office, it provides a friendly atmosphere.
The office has a separate check-in station for a designated scheduling co-ordinator, along with two check-out stations for financial co-ordinators. This helps to streamline the flow of traffic in the office and give patients privacy while making payments and addressing financial concerns. There is a private consultation/meeting room with comfortable bench seating, where two screens are mounted to allow patients to comfortably view x-rays/intra-oral images/treatment plans all at once to enhance patient understanding and case acceptance.
Each operatory is designed with in-wall cabinets for easy operator and assistant access to dental apparel during treatment procedures. Water purification systems help to reduce unnecessary movements and staff workload in the operatory and sterilization centre. As a result, staff efficiency and timely patient care is enhanced tremendously. There are three tv screens in each operatory room that play cable TV and dental media for patients simultaneously. Each op is equipped with an intraoral and carivu camera, along with digital x-rays that enhance diagnosis and patient education.
One of the goals throughout the design process was implementing elements of creativity. Kids love the Kidz Zone, with clear bins filled with toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss, along with (coin-operated) toy machines as they create their own dental goodie bag and receive a toy prior to starting dental treatment. Kids are much more compliant chairside when given their own goodie bag first!
Proper storage space in office design is always a cause for concern upon practice growth. The storage room was created large enough to house short-term and long-term dental sundries. The clear tip-out bins and open shelving allow easy and quick visualization to staff and providers in accessing stored items and easing the process for sundries ordering. A lab area was designed with a portable lab bench and incorporated wall mounted lab case trays to organize lab case delivery for patient care and to designated dental labs for lab work to be completed.
