pathology service for evaluation of a pigmented lesion involving the palate. The lesion
was found incidentally by the patient’s dental care provider. The patient’s medical
history was significant for chronic myeloid leukemia, which was diagnosed in 2015.
At the time of the consultation, the patient was considered to be in remission. The
only reported medication being taken by the patient was imatinib (Gleevec, Novartis).
There were no significant findings on extraoral examination. Intraoral examination
revealed a diffuse, well-demarcated, flat, blue-gray pigmentation in the midline of
the hard palate extending from the incisive papilla to the junction of the hard and
soft palates (
