Is Invisalign Right for You? Colorado Springs

by adminjay

Thanks to modern dental technology, you have more than one option when it comes to straightening your smile. Even though traditional metal braces can leave you with astounding results, you may prefer to have a metal-free option like Invisalign clear aligners. Not only do they tend to be more comfortable, but you don’t need to live with new eating restrictions and they are practically invisible! However, this option isn’t for everyone. Read on to see if you would make a good candidate for Invisalign treatment.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign treatment consists of a series of clear plastic trays that are custom-made to slowly push your teeth into place. For most patients, the trays are switched out every two weeks and should be worn for at least 22 hours each day.

The clear trays are removeable, so you are able to clean your teeth with ease and eat all your favorite foods without any restrictions. You just need to be sure to thoroughly clean your teeth before placing your aligners back into your mouth.

Is Invisalign Right for You?

Even though Invisalign is a great option for many people, it isn’t for everyone. In order to know whether or not clear aligners are the best option, you should consider the following:

Severity of Misalignment

Invisalign fixes a wide variety of different orthodontic problems. However, if you have severe misalignment issues, it may not be able to correct them properly. This is because Invisalign doesn’t address back teeth or the structure and positioning of the jaw in the same way traditional metal braces can. As dental technology progresses, perhaps this will be achievable in the future. For now, clear aligners are best for fixing more minor issues like:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Minor open bites
  • Minor underbites and overbites
  • Certain crossbites
  • Overcrowding
  • Protruding teeth

How Old You Are

Older teenagers and adults tend to be the best candidates for Invisalign. This is because it can be difficult for younger teens and preteens to stay committed to wearing their trays for 22 hours each day. In most cases, traditional braces are a better option for younger patients, but everyone is different. Older teens and adults often prefer clear aligners because they are unlikely to be noticed by others in pictures, when dating, or during social events.

Your Dedication

Something about Invisalign that can be an advantage is that you can remove your trays. However, the treatment requires you to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. If you aren’t fully committed, you may be tempted to remove your trays for longer than intended. This can mess with your treatment results.

If you’re looking for a way to straighten your teeth without a mouth full of brackets and wires, ask your dentist if Invisalign clear aligners are right for you. You’ll have the smile you’ve always wanted in just a matter of time.
