Myra, 52 lives in Jefferson Parish with her two daughters and her cousin. She enjoys spending time with her family and going to the park and gardens.
In the past Myra has faced many health challenges. During her last pregnancy, Myra developed severe preeclampsia that left her with nerve damage and makes it difficult for her to get around. She had a very busy career working for an airline, but was forced to leave and is now permanently disabled. Although she is no longer working, her days are full taking care of her children and she has had to sacrifice many things for them, including her oral health.
It had been a few years since Myra had seen a dentist and she was missing many teeth, and had an abscess. She sought help for her dental issues, but was unable to afford the treatment plan. Myra lives on a small Social Security Disability benefit and food stamps and struggles to make ends meet. It seemed she had nowhere else to turn for help.
How DDS Helped
Fortunately, Myra applied to the Donated Dental Services (DDS) program and was linked to three generous volunteers.
- Dr. Frank Martello, DLN • LA Board of Directors past president, provided an exam and placed several crowns.
- Endodontist Dr. George Arch performed two root canals.
- Selser Dental donated partial upper and lower dentures at no cost.
