Light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel – New Dentist Blog

Ahhh summer…

Dr. Ahmed

The sweet breeze and the warmth of the of day just hugging your skin. I love summer which is why I moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where it’s summer practically all year — with a few months of hell fire.

I have no complaints as I eat ice cream and lounge by the pool while my family and friends shovel snow. Their tenacious winter survival skills would make a Stark proud.

2020 was not an eventful summer. Any plans were wiped away by a virus that we did not understand.  I planned to travel, maybe see the coastline but those plans were traded for days with new hobbies, meditation, social distance birthdays and some outdoor time.

The announcement of the vaccine at the end of 2020 was a beacon of light. It provided a chance to overcome this very surreal yet disastrous event.  The pandemic seemed to affect every individual and community differently which is why I feel there has been a mixed populous response on how to address it.

When I learned about the vaccine and its efficacy, I felt a sense of relief to have a solution. I was hesitant at first, but I knew my risk of exposure was high as a dentist. So weighing the risk and a chance at normalcy, I chose to protect myself and help slow the spread.

My chance at normalcy meant rehashing all those travel plans I been pinning on my phone. This was my opportunity to hug, shake hands, not feel conscious when I sneeze, to be able to sit at a large dinner table or be in a room full of people and most importantly no longer fear visiting my parents. These are my summer plans.

The COVID-19 pandemic proved our communities can endure anything. After a year of social discord and economic instability, we draw closer to what we hope to be the end of a long and dim passage. There is sunlight as summer awaits.
