Meet the Dentistry Awards’ judging panel – Dentistry Online

Here we present the Dentistry Awards’ judges; the people who have the tough job of assessing all the award entries.

Julian Wilson-English

Julian is editorial director at FMC. He has been a prominent figure within the dental profession for 25 years. He is the editor-in-chief of Dentistry magazine.

Dr Alexandra Day

Alexandra is an associate dentist at Bishopsgate Dental Care.

She was one of the youngest ever clinicians to complete all advanced level training in the field of facial rejuvenation.

Alexandra is a member of the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group, ensuring safe practice in aesthetic medicine.

Dr Ben Atkins

Ben is the principal of the award-winning four-surgery Revive Dental Care business.

He is the president for the Oral Health Foundation, and chairman of the Salford Local Dental Committee.

Ben is an ambassador for Wrigleys and has been involved in various projects with NHS England and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.

Dr Debbie Ganguli

Debbie is principal of Cherry Trees Dental in Leighton Buzzard. She qualified from Guy’s Hospital Dental School in 2001 and spent the first five years of her career dedicated to the care of special needs and paediatric patients.

During this time, Debbie also became a trainer for newly-qualified dentists, during their first postgraduate year.

Dr Karen Gangotra

Karen qualified from Guys & St Thomas’ Hospital with a certificate of merit in 2001.

She is an award-winning dental surgeon with a special interest in cosmetic dentistry, facial rejuvenation, and implant dentistry.

Karen is the principal dentist of Smilessence, a private practice in Surrey.

Dr Nilesh Parmar

Nilesh is the principal of Parmar Dental in Southend-on-Sea.

He graduated from Bart’s and London Dental at the age of 22. Nilesh’s main areas of interest are implant dentistry and dental sedation for nervous patients.

Dr Nyree Whitley

Nyree has more than 20 years’ experience of clinical practice and is currently group clinical director at Mydentist.

Nyree qualified from Guy’s Hospital in 1996 and, since then, has held posts in primary and secondary dental care.

She is a postgraduate dental tutor for the Welsh Deanery, a clinical reviewer for the National Clinical Assessment Service, a local dental adviser for Dental Protection, and is still a practising dentist.

Sophie Lesiuk

Sophie is a dental nurse at Wigston Dental Care.

Melanie Prebble

Melanie graduated from The London Hospital in 1995 as a dental hygienist and therapist. She became qualified as a master neuro-linguistic programming coach in 2013.

She now currently offers her services at Abbey Road Dental in north west London, and Neel Dentistry in Welwyn, Hertfordshire.

Dr Amit Patel

Amit graduated in dentistry from the University of Liverpool in 1997. He obtained his membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgeons at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2000.

Amit subsequently undertook a four-year training programme in periodontics and implant dentistry at Guy’s, Kings and St Thomas’ Dental Institute, achieving masters in periodontology and clinical dentistry.

Lisa Bainham

Practice manager at the Old Surgery Dental Practice, Lisa was awarded Practice Manager of the Year 2015 by the Association of Dental Administrators and Managers, and Practice Manager of the Year 2016 at the Dentistry Awards.

In October 2016, Lisa became president of the Association of Administrators and Managers.

Dr Reena Ali

Reena is a dental surgeon with a special interest in facial aesthetics.

She is a founding member of Covent Garden Dental Practice, and a highly-experienced general dentist with special training in hypnotherapy, enabling her to reassure and relax anxious patients.

Dr Shivana Anand

Shivana is a cosmetic restorative dentist at Rüh Dental in London.

She is an honorary tutor at King’s College London and co-founder of Dental Training Consultants, which hosts bi-annual courses, helping young dentists prepare for life in dentistry.

Dr Rob Glenning

Rob qualified from Liverpool University in 1981 and joined the Royal Navy, serving five years as a dental officer before buying his first practice near Chester.

He is an experienced principal dentist and has owned and run family dental practices since 1986. He achieved membership of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners in 1992.

Paul Langmaid CBE

Paul is the former chief dental officer for Wales after graduating from Cardiff Dental School in 1975.

Following 10 years in general dental practice in Cornwall, he was appointed chief dental officer on the island of Anguillla in the West Indies.

Moona Malik

Moona is the practice manager at Improve Your Smile, an award-winning, state-of-the-art referral clinic in Woodford Green, Essex.

Chris Potts

Chris has been involved with dentistry for more than 30 years. He has advised many international companies, including Bupa and Boots.

He is a past president of the Oral Health Foundation and has acted as a judge for the Dentistry Awards for the past 10 years.

Chris has his own dental practice, Broom Lane Dental Care, which he set up in 1984.

Dr Michael Watson

Michael qualified 50 years ago and started his career in the Royal Army Dental Corps.

Retiring in 1979, he set up a general dental practice in Manningtree. In the 80s, he became secretary of the GDPA and was the first editor of its journal – the General Dental Practitioner.

Dr Tim Harker

Tim is the principal dentist of Llantarnam Dental Practice in Cwmbran, Wales.

He is also the chair of Gwent Local Dental Committee. Tim represents dentists in Wales in his role as a director of the British Dental Association.

Dr Christopher Leech

Chris studied dentistry at Newcastle University. He is a full member, and past board member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Chris has passed the membership for advanced general dental surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons. And he is a member of the Dental Faculty for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
