Office Space: Smile Studio Dental

by adminjay

Smile Studio Dental, located in Richmond Hill, Ont., wanted a unique “boutique hotel” design feel for their dental office. Serene, spa-like, sophisticated with restrained elegance are all terms that could be used to describe the result of the new concept. The 5,000-square-foot space has features such as two surgery suites and four operatories, DSD–Digital Smile Design room and ACE Dental Institute Teaching facility for 32 people. The presentation of these areas makes this practice unique.

Upon entering, an immediate sense of calm is felt. A soothing palette of material selections were used, such as Statuario Marble porcelain wall panels, incorporating soft, clean lines including a large sweeping desk in light wood and Corian. The undulating ceiling geometry echoes the subtle geometry of the space. In the waiting area, light wood slats provide seclusion and are replicated through a custom seating bench to provide patients adequate privacy and space.

Before entering the clinical area, the DSD–Digital Smile Design room provides a sculpturally inspired minimal space with indirect lighting that allows the Doctors to work with the patients in a comfortable setting to create a perfect smile. The floor to ceiling glass room has openness and yet affords complete privacy due to applied 3M cloud-like film.

At the end of the hallway is the ACE Dental Institute Teaching facility. This is an adaptable space that can accommodate flexible teaching requirements and is easily reconfigured with mobile furniture. It is also suitable for catering with an event kitchen.

Soft coloured materials continue throughout the clinical areas with light coloured oak vinyl slat flooring, pale, organic coloured walls with coloured blocked contrasting tones.

Oomph designed the office featuring unique, custom design elements atypical in dental offices. Soaring ceiling details blended with indirect lighting, as well as integrated branding and a signage program, were all incorporated to define the office as a unique offering to discerning patients.
