after the eradication of smallpox in 1968. The first outbreak of the disease was reported
in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and since then it has spread mainly in the
central and western regions of Africa. MPXV is a double-stranded DNA virus of the
Orthopoxvirus genus of the Poxviridae family. Mpox (MPX) was first known as a zoonotic disease
transmitted from tree squirrels, rope squirrels, Gambian pouched rats, and other animals.
However, evidence has not confirmed a particular reservoir. The disease can be transmitted
from animals to humans through direct contact with body fluids or contagious lesions
on the animal. It can also be shared between humans through direct contact with skin
lesions and contaminated objects. In places of prolonged personal contact (that is,
in households), it can be transmitted through the respiratory route,
