Out of office – Dannii Schroven and her passion for cars – Dentistry Online

by adminjay

Dannii Schroven talks about running a car detailing company alongside her role as a dental nurse and why food is so important to her.

Please introduce yourself

My name is Danielle Schroven. My friends and family call me Dannii! I am a dental nurse working in a little town based in Hampshire. I have been dental nursing for four years now and have just finished my exams. I am currently waiting on my results, which is really nerve wracking!

Once qualified I will be looking into other job roles and further education within dentistry. My dream dental job would be either orthodontic therapist or in dental forensics.

What do you get up to in your spare time away from dentistry?

In my spare time away from dentistry I have a really busy lifestyle – a very social but hardworking environment. I have a business with my partner, Elliot. We own our own car detailing company, called Slicks Detailing. We are so proud of our little set up and are very popular.

We take our main job roles very seriously as well as our little business. We decided to start up as we have a love and passion for cars, so it was self-explanatory to venture down this path. Elliot is really dedicated to his job and super dedicated to creating a happy little life for ourselves.

He’s a car paint sprayer, so he knows what he is talking about when it comes to looking after your paintwork.

Aside from working all the time, we love going out, eating and socialising with friends and family. Family is so important to us both! We are real foodies, so we go and try new places a lot of the time. I am sure we think of ourselves as food critics!

We vary from foods, Italian, Greek, Spanish and plenty of others. I think one of my favourites is Italian! You cannot go wrong with a beautiful freshly-made pizza.

Are you into any sport? If so what sport?

I really loved sport in school and played in a lot of tournaments for netball. My skill is javelin, but I never took to it. I was always scouted for competitions and rallies but I wasn’t really fussed. I did ballet for a long time and was really good.

Unfortunately, after school I decided to give up and move onto different things. I do really miss ballet and wish I continued! Now, I keep fit doing yoga and gym workouts to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Yoga has really helped me through the stresses of COVID-19 during lockdown. I have now become really good and my upper body strength has improved.

What type of television/movies do you like – any guilty pleasures?

My favourite films/television programmes vary! Elliot and I absolutely love Peaky Blinders and The Last Kingdom. We watched the previous Peaky Blinders series in a whole day! We just enjoy it too much.

I love a good romantic comedy and have to say my favourite is ‘The proposal’.

Do you like to travel?

I’d have to say travelling is my favourite thing to do. I am super lucky to have visited some beautiful places with Elliot. We have been really lucky and I can’t wait to continue once everything goes back to normal. I come from South Africa, so I am really lucky to have been able to see and grow up in a beautiful country. I will forever call South Africa my home!

Other than travelling I do model part time, and have had a few opportunities to expand my career in that aspect. I have been lucky enough to have worked with models from vogue and fashion catalogues.

I have had the pleasure of having a really talented makeup artist who has worked with people like Kylie Minogue and Brad Pitt. I am really grateful to have had these experiences.

Why is it important to have hobbies away from your profession?

I think it is really important to have hobbies and other interests outside of work because it builds you up as a person.

You meet more people; you gain confidence and you always have more opportunities. I love having other things to do outside of work, even though I love my job!
