In this week’s Out of Office, we hear from Reena Wadia who discusses her weekend city walks, travelling the world and her mum’s Indian cooking.
Please introduce yourself
Hi, I’m Reena, a specialist periodontist based in central London.
What do you get up to in your spare time away from dentistry?
Saturdays are for catching up with friends – I always enjoy going out for a meal or going for a long walk in Hyde Park. Sundays are for quality time with the family. I particularly look forward to seeing my adorable one year old niece.
During lockdown I’ve been working on The Perio School, which is an online educational platform for dentists, hygienists and therapists. This is going to be launched in July. I’m super excited to share this content with the dental community. I know that’s dental related but it’s been great fun working on it so I wanted to include it here!
Are you a foodie?
I am indeed a foodie. I’m biased, but I particularly enjoy Indian food – I love the mixture of spices and the flavours. I have to say, nothing beats mum’s Indian cooking!
I love baking and since the lockdown I’ve had so much more time to do this so I’ve been exploring lots of new recipes.
Are you into any sport?
I enjoy cycling through Hyde Park – if that counts as a sport? It helps me switch off and enjoy nature.
What type of television/movies do you like – any guilty pleasures?
It depends on what mood I’m in but you can’t go wrong with a comedy. Since lockdown, I’ve just started watching Friends again from series one –it doesn’t get old!
Do you like to travel and do your hobbies take you anywhere in particular?
I love travelling. I try to book in some sort of travelling holiday every three months. It gives me something to look forward to and helps me re-energise.
I don’t have a criteria for the perfect destination as I like to keep it varied. There’s an endless list of the parts of the world I want to see!
Why is it important to have hobbies away from your profession?
Hobbies play an important role in mitigating unavoidable stress, as they provide us with an outlet for creativity, distraction, and something to look forward to. Hobbies give us a time to recharge so that we can be our best self and provide the most optimal care to our patients.
