Philips announces it is a carbon neutral company

by adminjay

Philips is now a carbon neutral company, with more than 40,000 dental items recycled since the launch of its Terracycle programme.

Philips is leading the transition to a circular economy, and is now a carbon neutral company. By adopting innovative business models and reinventing practices to extend the lifetime value of products and solutions, Philips is positively impacting both people’s health and wellbeing, and the planet.

Philips environmental achievements so far include:

  • Carbon-neutral in its operations
  •  90% of operational waste is recycled
  • Zero waste to landfill from industrial sites
  • 15% of sales from circular products and solutions
  • 71% of sales from green products and services.

Reassuring

Award-winning dental hygienist Anna Middleton says: ‘The importance of sustainability is a growing concern for our patients. It is reassuring to be able to recommend carbon neutral products, which don’t compromise on oral healthcare. Some of my patients were reluctant to use an electric toothbrush, until they understood Philips Sonicare isn’t harming the environment.’

Every year millions of dental care products end up in landfill and incineration across the UK. To help combat this, Philips and Terracycle are committed to their Dental Care Recycling Programme, encouraging patients to drop off all their plastic dental items at their dental practice for recycling.

So far, the Philips Recycling Programme has collected 41,454 units of packaging since the launch of the programme.

Kayley McCauley, dental hygienist and therapist and director of Dorset Clinics, has adopted the recycling scheme and says: ‘The Terracycle scheme ensures our patients can be conscientious about both their oral health and the planet’s health, and we are so pleased to build towards being a more sustainable practice.

‘Our patients appreciate that recycling oral health products is simple, and that we are helping them consider the environment.’
