Toothpaste and mouthwash are on track to remain the most in demand oral hygiene products.

This is according to new research carried out by Fact.MR.

Research shows the global oral hygiene market is set to expand by more than 5% during the forecast period from 2021 to 2031.

Key findings from the study include:

  • A high demand for toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Hypermarkets to maintain the lead in terms of distribution
  • Germany to remain the world’s largest oral hygiene market, taking nearly 40% of Europe’s market share
  • The United States to hold more than 75% market share of the world’s second-largest oral hygiene market
  • Japan, China and France to remain markets with high potential.

Fuelling sales

‘Rise in awareness regarding oral and dental care is increasing the requirement for various oral hygiene products,’ the report concluded.

‘Manufacturers are emphasising on developing more variety of products, which, in turn, is fuelling sales across regions.’

According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than four in 10 adults aged 30 years or older suffered from gum disease.

Additionally, periodontal disease is believed to affect around 20% to 50% of the world’s population.

It is also likely to increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease by 19%. This increases to 44% among those aged 65 years and older.

Highest paid

This comes as it is revealed that UK dentists fail to make the list of countries paying the highest salaries for dentists.

New analysis shows that on average, dentists in the United States earn around five times the amount of those in the UK.

For example, US-based dentists earn around £179,000. In comparison, those in the UK earn around £51,000.

Similar patterns are also seen in other healthcare professions.

For example, the United States also took the top spot for the highest paid doctors with an average of £153,000 a year.
