Veteran Helps Fellow Veteran Restore His Oral Health

by adminjay

This Veteran’s Day DLN honors our nation’s heroes who have served and continue to serve our country. Through our Will You See One Vet program we connect thousands of veterans with volunteer dentists and labs across the country to receive comprehensive dental care, as many veterans do not have dental insurance coverage through their VA benefits.

Unfortunately, Paul could not afford the treatment he needed to address his deteriorating dental condition. Thankfully, Dr. Schmitt, a fellow service menber, along with other generous volunteers came to Paul’s aid. He had 16 teeth extracted, two teeth restored and with the help of a volunteer lab, a donated full upper denture, a partial lower denture, and two crowns.

“I would never have been able to obtain these services on my own. The dentist’s donations of time, skill and professionalism has been so appreciated,” said Paul. “My health has been greatly improved in a positive way.”

In addition to the generous volunteers across the country DLN has partnered with Guardiann Life for the past 4 years donating more than $1.4 million dental services for veterans.

“As an Army veteran myself, it is especially gratifying to help a fellow vet. Knowing that I can help someone be comfortable eating and smiling again is very rewarding,” said Dr. Albert Schmitt. “We work in a profession where we can truly improve someone’s quality of life.  I would encourage every dentist to join the Network and do just that for a person who would otherwise not have a chance at it.”

Dr. Schmitt signed on as a volunteer dentist in 2016 and has provided more than $20,800 in dental denver treatment to patients in Pennsylvania.

DLN’s Donated Dental Services (DDS) program needs volunteers to treat veterans nationwide that are on the waitlist. To see ONE vet who has courageously served our country, click here.
