ProSmile Holdings Provides Notice Following Data Security Incident

ProSmile Holdings, LLC (“ProSmile”) is a dental service organization headquartered in Toms River, New Jersey, that recently experienced a data security incident potentially involving personal and protected health information of individuals who sought dental treatment or services at various dental practices supported by ProSmile. ProSmile has notified potentially affected individuals of this incident via the United States Postal Service and has provided resources to assist them.

On July 7, 2022, ProSmile became aware of a potential data security incident related to its email tenant. Subsequently, an independent cybersecurity firm was engaged to investigate the extent of potential access to the ProSmile email tenant and assess the impact on sensitive information. The investigation revealed that certain personal and protected health information may have been accessed or acquired without authorization. Following this discovery, a thorough review of the potentially impacted data was conducted to identify the types of personal and protected health information involved and to determine the potentially affected individuals. This review was completed on November 29, 2023, and efforts were made to gather current contact information for notification.

Based on the investigation, the affected personal and protected health information may have included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or other state identification card numbers, financial account numbers, payment card numbers, medical treatment information, diagnosis or clinical information, provider information, prescription information, and health insurance information.

On December 22, 2023, ProSmile notified potentially impacted individuals about the incident and provided information on steps they can take to protect their information.

Furthermore, ProSmile has established a toll-free call center to address questions and concerns related to the incident.
