New this week
Dentist Luke Hutchings’ award-winning single-tooth composite case from the recent Aesthetic Dentistry Awards.
The patient attended surgery complaining of an un-aesthetic composite that was placed an unknown number of years ago.
The prompt to treat in this circumstance was a recent fracture of the existing restoration.
Clinical examination of the patient’s teeth showed a poorly integrated, large class 4 restoration to the UR1, retained by two dentine pins.

Updates to IRMER regulations
IR(ME)R updated its guidance on significant accidental or unintended exposures (SAUE) on 24 August 2020.
Hospitals and dental practices widely use medical ionising radiation to help diagnose and treat conditions. Examples are X-rays and CBCT scans.
The regulations aim to make sure that clinicians use scans safely to protect patients from the risk of harm when exposed to ionising radiation.
