The facial aesthetics expert – Dentistry Online

by adminjay

We hear more about Lara Watson who has recently come on board as Dentistry Online’s facial aesthetics expert.

I am thrilled to have been asked to represent the facial aesthetics sector for the Dentistry Online group and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and describe some of the exciting content you can expect from me over the coming months.

Introducing Lara Watson

As a registrar in maxillofacial surgery. I am a dual-qualified doctor and dentist having studied at the University of Southampton and Kings College London.

During my undergraduate years I achieved additional degrees in advanced anatomy and medical research before undertaking training as a junior doctor in the Northwest Thames deanery in London.

As a foundation doctor, I became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and continued into higher training as a core surgical trainee at Kings College Hospital.

I now work as a registrar in maxillofacial surgery at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

My journey into aesthetic medicine started eight years ago when I was a foundation doctor.

With principles underpinned by facial anatomy and the physiology of ageing, I found the artistry of aesthetic treatment planning truly fascinating.

As a training surgeon, the immediate results offered by dermal filler treatments has always given me a huge sense of satisfaction. And of course witnessing the reactions of my patients when they see the results is a fulfilling and humbling experience.

Launching Acquisition Aesthetics

Five years ago, a very good friend and colleague of mine Dr Priyanka Chadha (who also happens to be an absolute bad ass plastic surgery registrar) pitched the idea to me of launching an aesthetics training academy.

With our passion for aesthetic medicine and backgrounds in surgical training and education, we felt that we had a lot to offer the industry and indirectly, the wider public.

Acquisition Aesthetics is now one of the UK’s leading training providers in aesthetic medicine. We are proud to have centres in London, Manchester and Newcastle and we’re very excited to soon launch in Glasgow and Cardiff.

Together with a faculty of some of the best injectors in the industry, we have trained hundreds of healthcare professionals in the gold standard techniques of cosmetic injectables. We are also proud to be one of the few academies offering the highly esteemed level 7 diploma in aesthetic medicine.

As founding directors of a level 7 accredited training academy, Dr Priya and I were honoured to have been selected as key opinion leaders (KOLs) for Galderma. Through this collaboration, we have enjoyed working on an international stage and alongside colleagues from different countries to explore innovative concepts and techniques in aesthetic medicine.

Facial aesthetics

Facial aesthetics forms an integral part of my professional identity, whilst I continue to manage Acquisition Aesthetics and treat my aesthetics patients alongside my surgical training.

The science of cosmetic injectables allows clinicians to treat functional issues like bruxism and hyperhidrosis and the fast-paced evolution of the specialty ensures a dynamic and exciting working environment.

Crucially, however, the specialty provides a unique degree of autonomy and creativity. This is something I have not found in any other division of medicine or dentistry and for me it provides the opportunity to build fantastically positive relationships with patients that last of years.
