Spear Education Welcomes New Resident Faculty Member

by adminjay

Spear Education is delighted to introduce Matthew Chesler, DDS, as their latest resident faculty member. Dr. Chesler will take on the role of an instructor for Spear’s innovative Endodontics Workshop Curriculum Series, a key component of Spear’s newly developed curriculum paths tailored for general practitioners.

“I have always had a passion for teaching & learning,” said Dr. Chesler. “Helping someone to understand and implement new concepts to their clinical repertoire is one of the most rewarding things I’ve been able to do in my career. It’s that ‘lightbulb’ moment that makes it all worthwhile. To be selected as resident faculty with Spear is truly an honor and I look forward to delivering endodontic education that is worthy of the reputation that Spear has built over the years for educational excellence.”

Dr. Chesler obtained his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California San Diego and then earned his doctor of dentistry degree from the University of Southern California in 2004. During his academic journey, he was honored with an American Association of Endodontics (AAE) faculty award for his outstanding performance in endodontics. Concurrently, Dr. Chesler served in the U.S. Navy and completed a one-year residency in advanced education in general dentistry. Following this, he made history as one of the youngest individuals to be selected for the endodontics residency program at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, Md.

He successfully completed the program in 2008 and concurrently earned a postdoctoral master of science degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

After graduation, Dr. Chesler was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, as the head of the endodontics department. Commander Chesler was later reassigned to the San Diego area in early 2011, where he assumed the role of head of the Endodontics Department at Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar. In 2015, he concluded his 11 years of active duty in the Navy but continues to serve as a naval reservist. Dr. Chesler has remained actively involved in academia. While in Hawaii, he chaired the annual Tri-Service Dental Symposium, delivering lectures to dental officers based in Oahu. Furthermore, he has conducted extensive lectures across the country, providing comprehensive endodontic continuing education for general dentists and endodontists. Notably, he recently completed multiple courses with both Spear Education and CDOCS.

The initial two workshops in the Endodontics Workshop Curriculum Series are scheduled to commence in November 2023.
